Mike Barrett is Professor of Biochemical Parasitology at the University of Glasgow. His primary research interests involve seeking new ways to intervene against neglected tropical diseases including he trypanosomiases and leishmaniases. In 2008 he founded Glasgow Polyomics, a facility dedicated to the collection and analysis of datasets in genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. He has used these technologies extensively in his research into understanding how drugs kill parasitic protozoa and how protozoa develop resistance to drugs. In addition to using each of the technology types individually to report on different aspects of drug action and resistance mechanisms, he has looked at ways whereby combined data-types can enhance our ability to find answers to these questions.
